Introduction
The year of 2013 was the watershed for the demand pattern of solar PV to enter a new world. The installed PV capacity in the European region represented by Germany had dramatically decreased due to policy changes; while the demand for solar installation in China, the US and Japan representing the emerging markets, on the contrary, embraced sharp increase. The pattern will continue in 2014. The solar demand in the European region might rebound, China and the US will maintain their growth; Japan, however, is expected to reduce slightly; other emerging markets like India are likely to make comparatively rapid growth.
In 2013, to meet the target of 10GW of installed PV capacity, China launched a series of polices which enabled the domestic PV power stations to go on the right track. The added installed PV capacity grew to 11.3GW in 2013, up from about 3.5GW in 2012. The added capacity in 2014 is expected to achieve 14GW among which 8.4GW is for distributed PV plants and 5.6GW for ground-mount PV projects, accounting 60% and 40% of the total added capacity respectively.
